Semi permanent hair color that lightens dark hair without making it red or orange?

I have naturally dark brown hair. A couple months ago I dyed it with clairol natural instincts hair color that was very light brown. The color turned out reddish, but not really lighter. When the color faded I tried dying my hair with a permanent hair color and it turned my hair orange and I had to have it redyed, it went back to brown, but came out kind of brassy.

this is the hair color I want to achieve, is there anyway to get this color without using a permanent hair color, or bleaching my hair, I don't want it to get damaged anymore. Specific brands of hair color and shades would help a lot!!

Semi permanent hair color does not lighten hair, it only deposits color. You have a lot of red in your hair naturally, obviously. The pic is a beautiful golden color and with all of the red in your hair you can achieve this color, but you really need to go to a professional to get it as it is going to be a bit of work and know how to get what you want.

PS Cosmetologists do not work at Sally Beauty Supply Stores nor any other beauty supply stores, if they are any good in the hair dressing field. I have had more corrective hair color in my chair that listened to a person in a beauty supply store than hienz has pickles! I am not knocking the workers but usually they have no hair experience, except what a customer has told them about a product.....good or bad.

you probably just picked the wrong color. you have options but will be more limited if your not willing to lift out any color.

brassiness usually means you need toner.

i would suggest either going to a salon because they will know exactly what to use. OR if you want to do it yourself, go to a beauty supply store because usually they are cosmetologists working there who will know exactly what to get you

to get your hair lighter ...you can't do that with semi's that are not strong enough....sorry ...you could have them put some foils in ...that would look more natural and not as damaging....with dark hair it looks great
