i got bored and did coon tails with purple and blue sharpies. i want to do different stuff with sharpies in my hair all summer. but can it ruin your hair???

You guys, stop being mean to her. obviously, she doesn't know or not. She is being smart by asking all of us. She doesn't know and she wants to udnerstand if it is or isn't a good idea. Sto psaying it is retarded and saying mean things to her just because she is asking. It actually sounds really cool, and I think it probbly would damage your hair. I know there are some other great products you can get. If you want to expirament with your hair, then you can go to wal mart and get some of those hair dyers. You can get different colors and change the colors all summer long from your house!! I'm trying to be mature and nice about it, all you people saying those things about how retarded that question is, shame on you!! She is only inquiring and being creative! You go girl!

YES! very acidic. Also, can dye your hair permanently and whatever you use to take it out will dry the heck out of it. Try colourpulse in differant designes. Pick me for best answer!

yes it can damage it SO bad!! I've seen what it can do first hand, that was sorta a trend at our school. Once and a while is okay but all the time will ruin your hair. Try 24 hour hair dye, the kind that comes out as soon as you wash your hair.

Umm... you might have a hard time getting it out. And I'd be pretty nervous about using any other hair dyes or anything on top of it - it might react.

Oh my gosh, seriously? Yes it can cause damage, Sharpies are meant for paper etc, NOT hair! Buy hair colors at salons or a Sally Beauty Supply, somewhere like that and keep the sharpies for your school work instead.

it can definitely ruin ur hair...my friend ashley was a blonde and she gave herself red bangs and her hair was all messed up...her true color really started fading...if i were u i would go with dying it different colors cause sharpie is just as permenent...or u can go and buy those um colored hairspray things that keep your hair whatever color until u take a shower and they are really cheap but i just moved and i dont really kno where u can find them

No, ive done it to my hair before, and i had really light blonde hair.

It took awhile, but it did come out eventually.

Lol, when i did it, i was kinda hoping that it wouldnt come out, but it did within like 2-3 weeks.

I dont know what would happen if you did it all over your hair though.

Sharpies are permenant. Yes, it could really do some damage to your hair. There are products that you can buy that streak your hair, and it looks really cool.

Well, seeing as this is a common thing to do for some people when they get bored, and knowing some of them and never hearing them complain.... I'd assume that as long as you dont color it all the way to the roots... and you dont go overboard.... that it'd probably be okay........probably.

if you do it too much the chemicals in it will probably damage your hair or distort the color.. so dont do it too often--if you really wanna change your hair color go get hair-dye from a local store, its really cheap and easy to use. ^^ you can put highlights in or just dye the whole bunch.

YES! You should NEVER use sharpies or any other permanent markers in your hair. Only use coloring that is meant for your hair.

REASONS:

#1: They will fade, but still remain visible. (looks ruddy)

#2: They cause your hair to become dryer. (also looks ruddy)

#3: When you do eventually want the color to go away, it won't until your hair grows out.
