biosilk and matrix have great products for your hair although pricey if you find someone who can buy it for you wholesale its really reasonable. and will keep your hair georgeous. also take it from me you dont want to keep changing color ie brown to blond and back again and again ....that Will destroy ur hair lol i know but if you keep it in or near one particular shade you should be ok hope this helps

peroxide is in the dye it is what lifts the color out of your hair and during the process sucks protiens and nutrients out of your hair. if they are not replaced ie product your hair will do one of many things split, become dry and break in the middle become rubber like when wet stretches out really long then snaps and the worse fall out oh yeah if your scalp ever starts burning while coloring you need to give it a rest for a while you really do not want to damage your scalp! hair grows back but if your scalp signals you to quit do otherwise it may not grow hair anymore

Do your roots only. Don't pull the color throught the rest of your hair until you need to. Maybe every 3rd time you color.
or
Leave the color on the roots for 20 minutes, then pull the color through and leave it on the whole head for another 20 minutes.
If you're getting a lot greyer, you might have to buy professional grade hair color from a beauty outlet or go to a salon for coloring.
Root retouching can be tricky. Are the roots not coloring at all or fading quicker or what?
Based on the question: If you are using the same color as used previously, then the roots should be applied first and left on for the recommended time, then just rinsed through the ends. Sometimes the roots might need a color level darker or lighter if you are still having difficulty getting the color to match or take.
Sometimes roots can be tricky, I would recommend applying the dye to your roots first, then working your way down and leave the actual dye on your roots for a longer period of time. Make sure that you use a good type of dye, I would recommend not getting the ones that come in the box and instead getting it from a beauty supply where you mix it yourself with the developer, check with an employee there and see what type of base you will need to best cover your hair color.

The only permanent color you will find with blue sheen will be a black, heavy ash. You do NOT want to dye your hair black. The only way you can do this is with a semi or demi permanent color. Hot Topic's colors are better than Manic Panic, they do not wash out as quick AND if you learn to wash your hair less often, use less heat, and wash, condition and rinse with COLD water, it will stay in longer.
You have to bleach it, it will be very hard to see, and it will wash out very quickly

Not permanently, You can get a cellophane or manic panic and it will have a "blue Hue" It will wash out...
the only way you can do that w/o bleach is to dye it a black tone. its called blueberry or something and garnier sells it....its like black but in the sun it has a blue sheen...pretty cool

Yes, you do have to bleach it. if you add blue dye to dark brown hair it will look jet black with no blue sheen at all. what i did to my hair is just get blonde highlights (at a salon) and then add the blue velvet Fudge at home.

Blue is a natural pigment of hair, but it is rarely visible to the eye, so technically speaking for it to be visible you need to remove your won colour then add the blue. The blue you add however is unnatural pigment, so it will tend to come out very fast. Worst it will fade to motly colours. Best advice is to leave it. After 18 years as a technical colourist I have very rarely seen satisfactory results. On top of all that whatever colour you lighten your hair to Will affect the outcome ie if you get it to a golden colour and add blue you will end up greenish (blue %26amp; yello makes green). The more you lighten, the more you damage and the lesser chance your hair will have of holding the end colour.

all the foil does is seperate the hair that is in the foil (and being colored) from the hair not being colored. the only thing "special" about this foil is that it is cut differently than the foil you would buy at a store, it may also be a different color. but it is just aluminum foil.

Ive used a LOT of different home dyes and this is by far the best and healthiest for your hair.
For a first time person, its best to go with a color closest to your own. Maybe a shade darker, or a shade lighter. Follow the directions to the letter, and you should have NO problems.
You can change colors, or give your natural color a boost. It doesnt last forever, but it also doesnt have the harsh ammonia in it that other dyes have.
They also offer Happy Shine, which you can use once a week in between coloring, and it gives your hair a shiney boost. Its great stuff. I use it all the time, and my hair is super healthy

I would honestly stay with brown hair. Having a lighter hair color than your own makes it VERY obvious when your roots come in. And blondes with dark roots just look cheap and tacky. Don't be one of those.
Go to Sally's Beauty Supply and talk to the people there about what you should use to put some red highlights in your hair. Or you could find another shade of brown that brings out your natural highlights. That way when your hair grows, it wouldn't be painful to look at.

Did you come to the right woman. If you want to color your hair go to health store of your choice and get a natural color. Everything is in the box about $10.00. Follow directions exactly and have a friend do the back for you.
If you buy a box dye that is a few shades lighter,( I would try something several shades lighter because you don't really want to deposit color but lift it, also that would be easier to correct later) all you will really need to do is mix the color with the developer (usually peroxide) put it on your hair evenly, wait 20-30 minutes depending on what the directions say, and wash it out. Then do your normal routine of shampooing and conditioning unless the box comes with a conditioner than you can use that. It is nice to strand test first, Also if you have long hair 2 boxes may be needed. Although you do have to cover your roots, you might not want to start at the root but rather blend to the root after covering the entire head to avoid a halo close to the scalp where the hair color is brighter or blonder than the rest because of heat generated from the skin and that causing the developer and color solution to activate more quickly.

Oh my god!!! First of all, no, it is not the same peroxide you put on your kid's boo-boos. Second, PLEASE, do not try to lighten your hair on your own. Lightening your hair damages it to no end and is best left to professionals (they minimize the damage). Third- I had darker hair and wanted to go blond like when I was younger so I know from experience. It takes MULTIPLE visits to the salon to get your hair blond then in takes frequent visits to upkeep the roots. It is really difficult to take care of! Oh and if you want your hair to not be YELLOW, you have to take care of it with expensive lanvendar shampoo designed to keep the brassiness out of hair (bumble and bumble is by far the bes and it's like $25 per bottle). My last point is, I have tried to lighten my hair on my own- it doesn't work. Box dyes are NOT strong enough to make your hair blond and at home bleach (which is probably what you are thinking of) not only damages your hair BADLY (like you will definately have a good amount fall out) but it also turns darker hair ORANGE if you don't do it perfectly. I promise you it is not a good idea. If it is worth it to you- go to a good salon and UPKEEP frequently.

Ok, in hair dye and hair "bleach," peroxide is a main component. It is mixed with ammonia to acheive lightening. The peroxide used in hair dyes %26amp; "bleaches" is indeed the same type of hydrogen peroxide you put on your kid's boo-boos. However, it is in a much higher concentration. I would suggest going to a hairdresser if you wish to lighten your hair, or if you must do it yourself, try Sun-In. It has a lower concentration of peroxide, and has no ammonia. It will only lighten subtlely though.
Don't color it with peroxide! That will majorly dry it out! In fact, try not to lighten it at all. Lighteners have a lot of "drying" ingredients in them. I know, because I went to bright, bright blonde and my hair is so dry and blah now. But, i DO like the color :)
Don't do it, I have tried a few products out in the sun or with a hair dryer and none them worked and they made my hair feel really dry. Go get your hair professionally colored at a hair salon.

If by some miracle the peroxide does lighten your hair you will most likely hate it. Dark brown hair goes through the nasty brassy red stage before it hits the pretty blonde. You will still end up in a slon for a fix. Either way you will have succedded in drying out your hair.

YES! You should NEVER use sharpies or any other permanent markers in your hair. Only use coloring that is meant for your hair.
REASONS:
#1: They will fade, but still remain visible. (looks ruddy)
#2: They cause your hair to become dryer. (also looks ruddy)
#3: When you do eventually want the color to go away, it won't until your hair grows out.

People with black hair should keep it black, it is very beautiful. Maybe consider highlighting it with streaks of lighter brownish tones instead? My hair is dark brown and its almost impossible for me to go lighter without turning orange too so I've learned to live with my hair the way it is. go see a professional!!! that just proves my point that these box colors are formulated with way too high of a volume of peroxide...going from black to dark brown shouldn't be that hard of a process at all. unless of course your hair is already colored black...the only way you could get to dark brown from black is if your natural color is black...and there is absolutely no previous color on your hair. color will not lighten color....but a pro. will know what to do...and they can make a formula just for you!

If you might run out of hair dye then get it cut first .Assuming you are asking because you are doing the deed at home. Another reason to do it in this order is that if you are using multiple colours you can place them accordingly to compliment the cut. However when going to a salon they will almost always colour first and cut later. Reason is that professional colour goes on dry hair so it doesent get diluted. For a hairdresser to cut,dry,style and then colour , then wash again dry and style would take way too long.

Box home colour and salon colour are two different products all together. There really is no comparison, except that they both go on clean, dry hair. Also, it's easily customizable and a good colourist will be able to create special colour formulas for clients that want a colour that no one else has.
The colour used at the salon is more concentrated than a home box colour therefore, only a little bit, depending on hair length and thickness, is used at a time. If you go to any given salon that does colour services, you may see that at their colour bar, there will be colour tubes that have been used. They are not contaminated and the colour is as vibrant and fresh as ever. Colour tubes are saved until the product has been completely used. However I also want 90% of it dyed a dark purple but I have heard people say you can't do it and others say you can with a wash in dye or something. Coloring your hair with a color that is ammonia free should be no problem, as long as your hair is still in good condition. Ammonia free color can not, however, make your hair lighter, so the color will have to be darker or just a different tonality than what you have presently. I have lightened thermally straightened hair before, but this really should be done in a salon because of the high risk of damage to the hair. I would talk to the person who did the straightener, they should know if your hair is capable of being colored. Keep in mind that your hair will be more porous because of the straightener, and color that vibrant will probably need constant upkeep to keep it looking it's best.

Red is the fastest color to fade no matter what type of brand you use. If you use a semi-permanent color it will not damage your hair as much (because it has no ammonia) and will only last for a couple of weeks. You need to be very careful, your hair has been stripped of colour, bleach is very harsh, it will probally go orange, you really neen a good salon, you could make it fall out. There is nothing you can just apply and wash out. (using Ash blonde wont make it Copper either, ash it to tone down red tones)
this could be risky i have naturally red hair, i bleach it blonde regularly but when i want to go back to a copper the blonde doesn't always take it properly, it can be patchy in places, copper tones don't last too long but i would go to a professional to get proper advice. good luck

well, here's the thing. normally, a semi-perminent color, toner, or color glaze would stay in someones hair for about 4-6 weeks, depending on how much they washed it. blonde hair, however, breaks the rules. blonde hair is usually very porous, and lacks alot of pigment (which is why its blonde, of course), so if its colored with ANYTHING, the color will take more than it would if it were put onto darker, unbleached hair, and it would last alot longer. nothing will fade enough to leave you with the exact color you have now. it will definetly fade out to a much lighter form of ginger, but it wont go back to the color your hair is now.
i would suggest using a color glaze (translucent semi-permanent color - a salon will carry either pm shines or shades-e-q). its much less damaging, adds a ton of shine, is usually translucent (much more natural looking that opaque colors), and is easier to remove once you want to go blonde again. because you're just going ginger, and not really brown or red, it'll be pretty easy to get it blonde again (i would do it by foiling blonde back into it gradually). i think you should do it! it'll be a nice change!
I wouldn't risk anything permanent at home - definately ask a hairdresser. I think if you just put a toner on it you'd only get a weak strawberry blonde.
Unfortunately not and if anyone tell you otherwise they are lying! take it from me I am a colorist and stylist for 15 years when you have bleach hair you have opened the cuticle of your hair to the fullest making your hair pores. Then to ad a color that contains any type of red / orange base even if its a vegetable hair color it will not wash out it will stain the surface of your hair then in order to remove it you will have to strip your hair all over again and this will cause damage to your hair! Even if your hair is naturally bleach blond red is a color that stains the hair and like black hair color these are the worst colors to remove from the hair.

if you dye your hair a copper colour, it will turn ginger and there is no way it will wash out, leaving the blonde behind. as u hav bleached ur hair, the hair is porous, which means the cuticles on the hair are open therefore makin it easier for the colour (copper dye) to grab the hair and leave the colour inside the hair shaft. for more advise i would go to your local salon, they will probably be able to explain it better than i can on here.
no your hair has been bleached so very porus any colour applied will stain hair so wont go back blonde and if you use a tint there will be no way you will be able to bleach up copper if you decide you want blonde.

Well colouring your hair will eventually ruin your hair one way or another. The best way to keep it healthy is to use conditioner everytime you wash your hair! Use hair protective serums before and after you dye your hair. I'm sure L'oreal and Garnier have hair serums for dyed hair!

Dying your hair will only damage it if it's done with inferior, store-bought products %26amp; by a non-professional. For years, I dye or bleach my hair at least 2-4 times per month %26amp; my hair is INCREDIBLY healthy. I cut it %26amp; condition it regularly which also helps. Breakage happens for alot of reasons. See a salon for a consultation--It's worth it.

I would wait a while, say about two to three weeks, before coloring it again. You need to let your hair rest, granted that hair is dead, you don't want to overprocess it. Meanwhile use a protein based conditioner to strengthen your hair.

It can be a bit drying. Temp dyes like Manic Panic are better for your hair. I definatley wouldn't use food dyes for anything other than small streaks. But I used to get beautiful colors from hot water and kool aid. Use lots of leave in conditioner.

I've never actually heard of anyone dying their hair with food coloring. But if you want that color to stay you should use vinegar with it so it'll stay just like with the easter eggs. I would recommend you use Koolaid instead. It's a tiring process but Koolaid is known to work and actually stay for a while. With the koolaid you just need to add conditioner to it but make sure the koolaid is the unsweetened kind. Otherwise you'll end up regretting it.

I like Redken's Color Extend system, Biolage Color Care system, Matrix also makes a system for colored red hair as well.
I'd look for specialty shampoos that don't damage hair color. I'm a natural brunette, but I prefer my hair to be a shade above black, so I use Redken Color-Extend. They don't have different varieties to match brunette/blonde/black colors individually, but it does keep my color lasting weeks longer than it should. I might give that a try. I'm guessing your color will be close to a primary red, and because that's not a natural color, I'm not sure how well Redken will fair for you.
Will you be getting your hair professionally colored? Expect cheap product to yield cheap results. My best bet is to find an affordable hair coloring method as well as using color-protecting shampoos and conditioners. That way, if you ever need to recolor your hair regularly, you won't be breaking the bank. Hopefully the color shampoos will extend the vibrancy of your color. I went red once, a Cherry Cola red with bright red highlights, and I was able to keep it looking good for about 3-4 months using the technique mentioned above.
I might add that recoloring your hair again and again might damage it, due to the ammonia. I suggest using a moisturizing hair creme to reduce dryness and breakage through upkeep. Make sure anything you pick has a low alcohol content, alcohol tends to strip everything out of your hair and can dry it to a certain degree, even though it's purpose is to moisturize.

I want to put food coloring on just a strip of my hair for a day or two but I want to know if it washes out? I've never dyed or hilighted my hair if that matters.
You're much better off getting a temporary dye kit from the store. Food coloring will wash out, but it will take more than a day or two, and it will look bad in the process.
Your local drug store will have several options for temporarily changing the color, including shampoo in, spray in and mousse.

well i'm not sure about actual schools, but i know that a lot of companies like Redken, Matrix, etc often hold hair expos %26amp; conferences to show beauticians certain techniques for styling and coloring hair. You even get a certification from whoever teaches you... A lot of clientele prefer to have their hair colored by someone who is Matrix/Redken certified.
You could look at the local supply stores and schedule some classes and get some contnuing education hours in the process, but it really depends on the brand of color you are going to be using in whatever salon you go into. All color lines are not created equally and the rules, processing times and application vary from product to product. I'd say your best bet is to find the salon you are going to work at and see what color line they use and take it from there. And don't worry, very few students graduate from cosmetology school feeling like they know all they need to make a living. If they do, they need an ego check. You are constantly learning in this business, that's part of the fun! Best wishes, you are in one of the best industries there are in my opinion. Oh, and beware the cattyness and the drugs. Yes and No. Highlighting your hair always damages it because you are lifting color instead of depositing it. Most of the time they will use bleach instead of color as well. Making your hair darker doesn't damage it as long as you get a color that is ammonia free, but if you are going lighter, expect some damage. You can minimize this by using a good moisturizing shampoo and conditioner and a clarifying one every couple of days. Alot of people are unaware that puting too much protein on your hair can actually dry it out. The clarifying shampoo ensures that protein does not build up on the the hair shaft - leading to breakage. Also, if you are going lighter - use a heat protectant. Nexxus makes a great spray.

It looks like you're wearing makeup in the first picture but not in the second picture, which is probably why I think you look better with the lighter haircolor. The dark hair also seems to wash you out, whereas the lighter color really brings out your caramel skintone. On the other hand, I like the darker haircolor better because it looks more natural.........I guess if you changed your makeup to fit with the new color, it would look just as great.

I think people with fair skin look good with red hair.....so go with the dark red.
i'd go with the dark red if i was her...because people with light/fair skin look better in red hair and the darkness in it will make her dark eyes stand out.

All I can say is look at the selections in the drug store and make a decision. I like the colors that have the word golden in them. Be careful not to go too dark. I'd get my hair trimmed. I'd use the Clairol Root color until you think it's okay to recolor your hair based on the directions on the bottle. I like the Dove products. If you want to strip your hair, you can use Prell. Dove has volumizing shampoo and conditioner.

ok I don't know much about hair color. But I have great volume. Pantene pro-v has a great scrunching gel that you wet in and blow dry.... your hair will stay soft and it last all day. also try just blow drying your hair upside down.

Some gems for you to keep in mind from the video are:
**Make gradual color changes.
The biggest problem is not choosing the right color. For whatever reason, people always choose a color thaté³ć¦ēØ too dark. When youé³ć¦ē§e choosing a color in a store, always choose the lighter color because you can gradually go darker, but once you go dark, you cannot go light. Color does not lighten color. Thereé³ć¦ēØ no way.
**Stay within your color family.
Basically thereé³ć¦ēØ a level system, and the level system identifies everybodyé³ć¦ēØ hair color. There are three families of color: black, brown and blonde. Within each category, thereé³ć¦ēØ a light, medium and dark. Levels one, two and three make up the dark family; four, five and six make up the brown family; and seven through ten is the blonde family. If your natural color is dark brown, try light brown. Dark blonde probably woné³ć¦ē© turn out right.
**Only color what you need to.
Most hair colorists over-process the hair by pulling the color all the way through the ends and reapplying bleach to whaté³ć¦ēØ already been lightened. Therefore, youé³ć¦ē§e not really getting a highlight/lowlight technique. Youé³ć¦ē§e just getting an over processed color thaté³ć¦ēØ all over and a huge line of demarcation, which is the line between natural color and applied color. Only go as far down the hair as you need to; doné³ć¦ē© process hair thaté³ć¦ēØ already been highlighted.

i would say burgandy or mahagony would be the colours you should try.
stay away from orange-reds
and use a purple-reds,
they generally stay in your hair longer.

and it looks amazing with my complexion and eye colour.
i would suggest that if you dont exactly know what you are looking for try out different hair colours.
if you are going for red coloured hair...
try out lights and darks.
see which contrast and compliment your complextion and eyes more.

Try auburn or a light red color because that goes well with green eyes.
Red. NOT carrot red. But, cute dark red. That looks pretty with green eyes.

Hi/Lo lights are costly and consuming if all over and dramatic, all over color is needed every 4-6 weeks. This is an investment. This $30-$100+ a session.
I highly recommend you get a color specialist, ask woman with fabulous hair who they use. Never go in blind, take a picture of you and if you have celebrity or magazine picture to show.
Always do a "test" color- fair skin can burn very easy. OUCH on the scalp- trust me. Over the counter stuff requires you buy different color enhanced shampoo, or the color will wash out in 3-4 shampoos and the end result will not be what you wanted.
Good luck- to keep it natural- make a lateral move with colors, use the same "shade" or "level of color" as you already have with enhanced hues.

Start with apale brown,but eventually dye it black, besides the skin color is a hard color to dye hair of that color with on a first try, and besides I'm a brunette wanting to be a blonde.
i have dark chocolate brown eyes, lightly tanned olive skin, naturally dark brown hair that has been dyed a few times and its in great condition now. im thinking of dying it a deep rich honey color, similar to a light golden brown. but anyways, im just wondering if anyone knows if this will be compatable with my skin type and eye color. i've read in a couple hair magazines that this colour goes very well with my color palette, but i need some more opinions.

I would try and make sure it has multi-tones (try not to block-colour it as it may look fake) but other than that it sounds okay.

it would b less expensive 2 do it at home but if u don't know how 2 do it then go 2 a salon.Dye it like almost but not exactly black
i'm not sure if a saloon can help with your hair ;) definitely get it done by a pro. they will know what colors look best with your skin tone

It's perfectly natural. Eyebrows are typically darker than the hair on your head and your eyebrows match your body hair. It's just the way we were made.
If it bothers you you can use a lightning cream or even bleach body hair. (See drug store for kits and how tos)

Yes, it is normal. Be glad your eyebrows %26amp; lashes are darker, I know plenty of peaple w/ the darker hair on their heads and eyebrows %26amp; lashes are light blonde, almost invisible. It is just the beauty of how everyone is unique:)

Sure. I'm almost the opposite. My hair is a dark brown %26amp; my eyebrows %26amp; lashes are also dark brown, but, the hair on my arms %26amp; legs are all blond. Everyone is different %26amp; has different combinations.

it's norma typically your hair will naturally turn to the colr of your eyebrows in time as you age.
I got my hair colored (permanent color) recently - it's okay, but not completely crazy about the color. It's a medium brown and I want to go a tad darker and richer (like a dark golden brown). I know with my skin tone and eyebrow/eye color I can go darker as I'm a natural medium brown, but I'm wondering, will this damage my hair?
I just bleached my hair then put a semipermanent colour over top and my hair is fine. and i would say that if my hair is ok after bleaching the heck out of it yours should be fine. good luck!

Well what i did, i put some dark (black) highlights in with my light brown hair and it made it look almost natural, its really pretty so theres a thought instead of dying all your hair.

I am confused. If your hair is an unusual color, as you call it...almond colored, why would you want to dye it? Hair dye colors are pretty limited. You would end up with some plain hair color that everyone else has. Unless you're covering up grey, stick with what you've got.
if youre daring, try red, otherwise.........um....i dont know, your natural shade sounds perfect. if ur set on dying, get light brown highlights- thatd b nice.
