You may be trying to lift from a shade that is too dark. Also you said a honey color? You may want to try an ash color for your roots or just plain use hair bleach and let it sit till it's a pale yellow. Like the inside of a banana. you will be platinum though. But to go lighter or strip color out you must bleach first or use color remover.
