Why does coloring your hair damage it?

I've been getting a lot of damaged hair and no matter how much I cut it.. it always finds a way to damage.. and don't tell me to stop blow drying it :P

Why does coloring your hair damage it?

It contains ammonia and peroxides, which can cause dryness and damage.

Deep condition your hair once each month before dying to maintain color. Be sure your hair is relatively clean before applying. Trim hair especially dry and split ends to even out color. Hair should be slightly damp when dye is applied, That way it wont dry out as easily.

By using high quality shampoos and conditioners rich in proteins and other hair strengthening ingredients you can help protect the hair against styling damage. Avoiding heat styling, like blow dryers, curling irons and straighteners, for daily hair care, can prevent drying out your hair and creating split ends.

The majority of styling products contain ingredients that can dry the hair or damage it, so try to style your hair in moderation, skipping it all together if possible. Ask your hair care professional which products contain hair-strengthening agents. By spending a few extra bucks you can protect your hair from things like alcohol and other damaging hair care formulas.

Why does coloring your hair damage it?

because it dries it out

Why does coloring your hair damage it?

Coloring damages the hair by the chemicals soaking through the hair. If you don't keep your hair conditioned, it could easily dry out and begin to break. You need to use a moisturizing shampoo and ALWAYS condition you hair. Also, use some type of heat or style protectant on your hair if you must blow dry it. If you must color, try a color cream instead of the older types. They are suppose to be less harmful on the hair. Happy coloring!

color is a chemical for one thing, but it sounds like u may be getting damage from overlapping the new growth or leaving in the color to long all over the hair. u apply color to the new growth only first, leaving this in and then pull the color through all the hair for the last 5-8 min....if the ends are very dry, i would add some conditioner to the color too. have it done at a salon for best results!
