It's usually considered safe to get highlights, since the dye doesn't touch your scalp. But I would still check with your doctor first, as they may have concerns specifically regarding you.

I dyed my hair when I was pregnant. But my doctor told me it was safest to do in the 2nd trimester. I did it once and forgot the rest of the time. Lucky, my real hair color and the dyed color I had been using wasnt much of a difference so no one could really tell.
Best of luck w/ your pregnancy.

I wouldn't to be safe. Never do anything that may put the child at risk.
Try putting chamomile tea and honey and lemon juice in your hair and sit in the sun for highlights.
You can try henna for doing darker.
There are also natural hair colours that contain no ammonia or other chemicals harmful to yourself that I would use if you are going to highlight or colour your hair.
I wouldn't ever get a perm or chemically straighten your hair, that is just screaming for something bad to happen.
Think of the fumes that hair dye has, even when not preggos it makes your eyes sting and burn. That can't be good.

Any new growth of hair since becoming pregnant may very well not come out the same color as the rest of your hair. That is due the changes in your body, when your pregnant there is less protein in your hair. Even woman who start or change medications can have strange things happen when they have their hair treated. Perms and relaxers sometimes don't work as well or at all, and colors can come out look completely different then what they should.
Some doctors say it is safe, some don't. Mine didn't have a problem with it, when I got a perm when I was pregnant with number 3, I asked him first, he didn't think it would take, and was surprised it did. I was just lucky mine did.
