I've been coloring my hair black for about a year...?

At first I used plain black color, than about a month and a half ago I swithed to garnier's blue black and now I wat to try brown-black one..So I was wondering if I should use a color remover to remove the blue black color first and than use the new color or can I just apply the brown-black one over it since the blue color kinda fades fast...Thanx!

What you want to do will not work. Brown black is lighter then blue black, color does not remove color, if you put it on ,only your roots are going to be lighter. You would be better off to continue using the color you are already using or get all the color stripped out of your hair and make it lighter. Hair color remover is damaging though.

Insted of removing all the black, you could get some high lights done that will lighten up the over all look of your hair.I don't mean blonde high lights,I just mean something a little lighter then black. That way you could let the black grow out a little more gracefully.(Just an idea.) Report It

you should really try letting it grow out and then try another color to many chemicals on your hair will make it fall out.

I would just color over it as its just color like any other color

Don't strip the color - that's very damaging. Since you're changing only the tone, you can color over the existing tone with no problem. You've waited plenty of time too - normally they say to wait a week to 10 days. Good luck!

It won't make your hair fall out...whoever said that must not know too much about hair coloring. Anyways, go ahead and try a brown black one over it. Just leave it on about 5 minutes more than the box says to so that the color really soaks in.

From experience, nothing will get out blue-black from your hair, even if you strip it. It will just turn calico and badly damage it.

Dye over the top of the old color, it will do a lot less damage.

well I have had my hair black for years...and I wanted to kind of do what u are trying to go for next...and yes the blue is the color in hair color that fades the fastest if u use bleach to take the other color out it will damage ur hair...bleach is bad for the hair sometimes it is best to let it grow out and then start again but in this case I think it would be ok to just color it over the top of that because it is the same color just a different tint into it....I am a cosmetologist also so if u wanna talk more I am more than happy to help u out and also red fades the fastest....

Where I live blue-black hair aint to cool! Unless you are way over70!

Glad you are switching! I would try just putting the color on over what is there! If you try to strip out the old color you may fry your hair.

have colored my long hair for years in the dark-brown and darker red shades I usually color over always remember that the top might need more time processing than bottom

I think the best thing to do to avoid any "hair accidents" is to go to a professional for major changes. They'll give you good advice and you won't end up doing anything you'll regret later.

You can't dye over black hair dye with something lighter. Grow it out, bleach it, or color strip it, but don't waste your money trying to dye over. It may work a little, but you won't look like the color on the box.

Just color overi t!

Don't do anything to it. Let it fade out and it will eventually be brown black. Color removers damage hair.

MY MOM IS A HAIRSTYLIST...

so i know alot

BLACK IT ONE OF THE HARDEST COLORS TO TAKE OUT. BLACK ITS NOT GOING TO COME OUT JUST IN ONE TIME YOU COLOR IT, YOU MIGHT HAVE TO DO IT 2 OR 3 TIMES, JUST PUT A SHADE LIGHTER THAT THE ONE YOU HAVE UNTIL YOU REACH THE COLOR YOU WANT .. DONT GO FROM BLUE BLACK TO BROWN BLACK BECAUSE YOUR ROOTS ARE GOING TO BE LIGHTER..

A LIGHTER COLOR NEVER WORKS IN DARKER COLOR.

IF YOUR HAIR IS DRY BECAUSE OF THE CHIMICALS, BUY A GOOD CONDITONER AND LEAVE IT ABOUT 15 TO 20 MIN .. THEN RINCE IT..

HOPE MY TIPS WORK.

black is a pretty hard color to get out of your hair, you might want to try a color remover first and then go back and put you new color on. good luck
