Hair Breakage due to coloring?

I am an African American teenager who wanted to try a new look and I ended up dying my hair. Problem is....my hair has broken off HORRIBLY...this is the shortest its been! What products can I use to stop the breakage and grow out my hair? All relevant answers are welcome.

i have had the same problem when i got highlights

all you do is moisturize your hair as much as you can

try using the product: "Motions"

they have a lot of different things that should help you out like:

shampoo/conditioner

hair oil

and lots of other things

oh and make sure that after you wash your hair, put conditioner in it and a processing cap (those clear caps with the elastic band) and let that sit for about 30 minutes

then wash it out and MAKE SURE that you oil your scalp to prevent any further damage

hope this helped!

She's right. Hit the conditioner.

It was most likely the dye that strained your hair. Be sure to do deep conditioning treatment. Also, be sure not to over-style it, and don't pull it back too tight.

You may need professional help with this one. If you can afford it, find a good hair stylist and have her give you several deep conditioning treatments. If you can't afford this, try any of the really deep, intense conditioners on the market right now. Also a leave-in conditioner would also help. No more coloring of your hair for the time being and if you do go to color it at a later time, maybe save up your money and have a professional do it so you don't end up like this again.

Try Paul Mitchell, Matrix, Bed Head, Nexxus. Any of these have deep conditioners. It won't be cheap to purchase them, but will help to heal the damage somewhat. Basically, you won't have nice hair again until the dry, split, broken hair grows out and is cut off. What you are doing is trying to prevent anymore breakage.

The best way to find the best products for your hair is to try them all. That would be pretty expensive but go over to a friends house and use some of her stuff. See how it works, and just keep trying new things. Hair may work with products from this company and not that company....it's all trial and error.

If I can suggest something, I would suggest you try a hot oil treatment....for a cheaper way to have great soft and silky hair with less frizzies, warm up some olive oil (regular cooking stuff) in the microwave and massage it into your hair while it is dry. Wrap it up in a warm towel from the drier and sit for an hour or so. Maybe give yourself a facial at the same time. Then get in the shower, and shampoo out all the oil (because water won't get the oil out--oil and water don't mix) and then condition your hair. Viola! Beautiful silky hair.

The most key thing to protecting your locks is to stay away from all heat. Yep, that means no hairdrier, no straightner, no curling iron either....It's very hard not to advert to these products but just try it for a week. Don't blow dry your hair for a week....try it. I know it's hard not to but if you stay away from things with heat such as blow driers, curling irons, straightners, etc....you will notice a HUGE change in the feel and look of your hair. It will be so much more healthy.
